Fused deposition modeling printers are the default for functional prototypes, jigs, fixtures, and low-volume end-use parts. Look past headline print speed to bed leveling reliability, enclosed chambers (for ABS/ASA/nylon), and multi-material support if your parts need it.

Resin: precision over volume

Resin (SLA/MSLA) printers deliver far finer detail and better surface finish — the right call for dental, jewelry, miniatures, and any part where dimensional precision matters more than build volume or speed. Budget for post-processing time (washing, curing) as part of the real cost.

What actually matters for a business

  • Repeatability — can it produce the same part 50 times without babysitting?
  • Material range — does it handle the polymers your parts actually need, not just PLA?
  • Uptime — auto-bed-leveling, filament runout detection, and enclosed builds reduce failed prints that cost you real time
